Property owners in California will find it easier to receive tax refunds following the signing of Assembly Bill 3134 by Gov. Gavin Newsom. This new legislation, introduced by Assemblymember Phillip Chen, allows county assessors to issue automatic refunds without a claim if the amount is less than $10,000, up from the previous limit of $5,000. The law aims to streamline the process for property owners who have not filed for refunds they are entitled to, particularly in cases of value reductions and roll corrections. The law “addresses cases in which property owners haven’t filed a claim for a refund they are due.”
