The PCAOB has announced that a record number of 676 students will receive scholarships of $15,000 each for the 2024-2025 academic year. This is the largest cohort in the history of the PCAOB Scholars Program, with an increase from 369 students in 2023 and 250 students in 2022. The scholarship money is provided by the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which mandates that PCAOB monetary penalties be used to fund a merit scholarship program for accounting students. The goal of the program is to support students pursuing a career in the accounting profession and raise awareness about opportunities in accounting. Since 2011, the Scholars Program has awarded $32.56m in scholarships to 2,918 recipients. This year, the program expanded its reach to community college transfer students and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), with 12 HBCUs represented among the 2024 scholars.
