A program designed to ease attainment of the final 30 hours of the education requirement for CPA licensure has expanded since it began offering online courses last semester. The Experience, Learn and Earn (ELE) Program, sponsored by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), has seen an increase in summer-session students, with 94 students representing more than 50 employers. The program offers flexibility and cost-effectiveness, allowing participants to take classes around their work schedule. Employers have shown great interest in the program, seeing it as a good path to attaining a CPA license. The ELE program is open to individuals who have completed their bachelor’s degree and core accounting classes but lack the 150 credit hours required for licensure. Participants earn up to 30 university credits through online courses, with employers providing time for coursework and support. The program is a win-win for both employees and employers, as it helps employees meet the education requirement and allows employers to develop skill sets that benefit both the employee and the firm.
